What does live band sound include?

It includes the audience PA, mics and DI boxes for every instrument, stage monitors and a technician mixing throughout the performance.

A five-piece with a full drum kit usually needs 18 to 24 channels. Alquiaudio’s 32-channel desk leaves room for a seven-piece with backing vocals and stereo keys, without having to choose who goes without a mic.

02

What information does your band’s sound technician need?

Ideally a rider with the input list, a stage plot and how many monitor mixes the band needs.

If the band doesn’t have a rider, no problem: a ten-minute call is enough to put one together. We want to know which instruments there are, who sings, whether anyone uses their own in-ears and whether there are backing tracks from a laptop.

  1. Input listInstrument by instrument, with mic or DI box.
  2. Stage plotWhere each musician stands, to position monitors.
  3. Monitor mixesWho needs to hear what; up to four mixes.
  4. TimingsSound check, show time and changeovers between acts.

Floor wedges or in-ears for a gig?

Quick answer: floor monitors are the most practical for party and cover bands; in-ears give more control but require the band to have their own systems and experience.

We use the Electro-Voice 12″ speakers as floor monitors thanks to their wedge angle. If the band brings in-ears, we send their mixes from our desk. For staging, see stages and platforms for bands.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How many musicians can you mic up?

Alquiaudio runs sound for bands of up to 7 musicians with drums, backing vocals and keys. With 32 channels on the desk there is room for full line-ups. For bigger bands we tell you from the first message.

Can you do sound for a band you haven’t booked?

Yes, we run the stage for any band performing at your event. We coordinate with the band to get their rider before the day. It is common at town festivals and weddings.

How long does the sound check take?

For a band of five to seven, the sound check usually takes 45 to 60 minutes after set-up. For singer-songwriters or duos, around 20 minutes. We set it in the Rider so the band arrives on time.

Do you bring drum mics?

Yes, we bring mics for a full kit: kick, snare, toms, hi-hat and overheads. Also mic stands, cables and DI boxes. The band only needs to bring their instruments.

Does the technician stay for the whole performance?

Yes, the Alquiaudio technician mixes live for the whole performance. They adjust vocals, solos and monitors as the band asks. Afterwards, they pack down the equipment.
